CASTLE AIR STREAMLINES OPERATIONS BY INTRODUCING MOBILE MANAGEMENT SOFTWARE

1st April 2014

One of Britain’s leading helicopter companies, Castle Air, has streamlined its operations by introducing mobile management software which allows all business information to be accessed using an iPad app.

The helicopter charter and sales business, which has bases in Cornwall and Biggin Hill, has a fleet of more than 25 machines as well as a 50-strong staff team. They started using Total AOC’s Centrik software as part of a drive to keep operations as efficient as possible.

Three months after introducing Centrik, which includes modules on compliance, safety, training and documents, Castle Air’s Managing Director Ross Bunyard says it has “transformed the business”.

He said: “When you are taking on a lot of pilots you need the right software in place that is intuitive and doesn’t take too much to learn. Centrik is just that, and it’s had an incredibly positive effect on our business.

“Using an electronic system is a marked progression from the old-fashioned paper method and as everyone here has an iPad it was quick and easy to implement. It has hugely reduced the amount of time our pilots spend on paperwork and enables us to connect with all the pilots easily, and at any time.

“It offers true uniformity and saves us all a lot of time. It’s very simple to use and the transition was really easy.

“There are messages pilots must see and Centrik provides useful prompts, and also allows us to see when messages have been read. It’s working really well for us. It’s become part of the job.”

He added: “I went on a course with the CAA and it opened my eyes to a lot of aspects around safety, but with the system in place I don’t have to worry about it because I have an overview at all times. I definitely recommend it.”

Centrik was developed by Total AOC, a team of aviation experts based at Biggin Hill, who work with private and commercial operators to increase efficiencies. Total AOC also provides full support in AOC set-up, writing and updating manuals and providing training programmes for pilots.

Total AOC’s Director Julian Tubb said: “Once we established what Castle Air needed to achieve in terms of efficiency it was relatively easy to tailor Centrik to ensure their goals could be met. The whole team has been very receptive to the changes and we’re pleased it is already making such a difference to the operation.”
